Ceramic braces

Fixed ceramic braces are clear or tooth coloured meaning that they are very discreet and many of our patients tell us that people don’t even notice they are wearing them.

Ceramic braces are made up of small brackets that are fixed to the front of the teeth and a thin wire that fits onto the brackets. Both the wire and the brackets are clear or tooth coloured, making the braces very hard to distinguish.

Traditional methods of orthodontics are used with ceramic braces, meaning they are very effective at straightening teeth and treatment times can be much faster than you may expect.

Lingual braces

At Treehouse Dental, we also provide lingual braces, which are fitted to the back of the teeth. Positioning the braces here means that they are completely undetectable and no one will be able to tell you are having treatment.

Lingual braces work in a similar manner to other forms of fixed braces, with a series of brackets fitted to the teeth and a wire to connect them – the difference is that this all happens on the back of the teeth.

Your orthodontist will be able to tell you if lingual braces are suitable for your unique needs, and will be able to discuss this type of treatment in comparison to other orthodontic systems that we have available in Crouch End.

Metal braces

Metal braces are the most traditional type of orthodontics available. They consist of silver metal brackets fitted to the front of the teeth, with a silver wire connecting them.

Many adults are now opting for metal braces as there is less stigma now about having dental treatment. These traditional braces are especially effective for more complex cases.

Fixed braces: Frequently asked questions

  • How much does fixed braces treatment cost?

Fixed braces treatment costs starting from £1,995. The price range depends on your exact treatment needs and we will be able to give you a clear indication of the price during your free consultation.

  • Are there any foods I can’t eat during fixed braces treatment?

As the braces will be fixed to your teeth, you do have to give some thought to your diet during treatment. Especially crunchy, chewy, or sticky foods are unsuitable as they may become stuck in, or break, your braces.

  • How do I clean my teeth with fixed braces?

You can brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day as normal and we also recommend carrying a toothbrush with you as food may get trapped in your braces during the day time. It is possible to buy small brushes to clean around your braces, our hygiene team will be able to show you how. As you will not be able to use regular dental floss, we recommend using interdental brushes to clean between the teeth daily.

  • Do fixed braces hurt?

When your braces are first fitted or the wires adjusted, your teeth may ache a little at first. This eases quite quickly, and is easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers, such as paracetamol. Sometimes fixed braces can rub on your cheeks, we will provide you with special wax to help prevent this.

I became a patient of Dr Laith Abbas after I needed an emergency appointment on a Saturday as I had an abyss, he saw me within an hour of calling. After that I became a regular patient and have had a wisdom tooth extraction (which was painless by a specialist dentist), a fixed brace (by Dr Farooq), teeth whitening as well as many other treatments including crowns and fillings. The surgery will make sure you get an appointment when you need it and will ensure you're never in pain when having treatments. This is best dentist I have ever had and will continue to see him for as long as possible.
